I'm so vain.... I think I know this post is about me!

Who am I?

That’s the big question we all have to answer at some point in our lives and honestly for me at least it’s one of the hardest.

The mere thought of it triggers an innate shyness and desire to crawl back under my rock and hide from the world. This might surprise some people who have only ever seen my confident, brave and outspoken side but none of those things are really true about me at all. I’ve always been shy and fearful of confrontation or being under the spotlight (In fact my fear of costumed performers stems from that but that’s another story altogether). But I am a talker and one of the things about talking is that sometimes your mouth can totally take over and let your brain shut off for a bit. People tend to focus on the noise you’re making instead of the person you are or try to drown you out which in some cases can be even better. However this approach to false bravado can and did lead me into trouble sometimes. Sometimes it’s not only preferable that you think before you speak but it is in fact imperative especially in professional settings. Nevertheless it is something I’ve learned to tame and to accept my need to hide, allowing me to seek out ways to do that via healthier avenues.

So why would someone so shy want to become a writer? I can hear some of you asking. Isn’t the point to become rich and famous? Actually no and now that I’m thinking about it I’m imagining how much more comfortable I’d have been writing under a pen name. Too late now though the damage is done. For me the purpose of becoming a writer is to be able to get out all the words that have built up inside me over the years. To weave them into stories that give other people an enjoyable place to escape to. Would I like to earn enough to support my family? Absolutely. Would I like to have a parade in my honour? Absolutely not.

If you’ve made it through the rambling so far congratulations.

Let’s cover some of the usual stuff. I was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the north East of England in the usual way. I am the youngest of three siblings. My brother Colin also writes books so you should check him out too. Here is a link to his book! I’ve moved around a bit in my time. I lived in Scotland then back to England. I moved from there to France then to Ireland and back to France again. At the last count I’ve lived in 20 different homes and am currently in the process of planning my next move.

I am a wife and mother and I have a day job.

The biggest thing about me is that I’m a gamer. I love video games and while other people watch TV I much prefer sitting in front of my laptop and setting out on an adventure. One day I’d like to be a narrative designer in the gaming industry so watch this space.

I am a chocoholic and would live on that and coca cola if I could. My ideal life would be to settle down in a quaint town in the mountains where it snows all day and I have a warm fire and fast internet.

Other than that there isn’t much to tell. But if you have any questions post them below and I’ll do my best to answer them.

I stepped into the stream of warm water and pulled the glass doors behind me together. Eyes closed I relished the thought of being clean...
